Templates

Templates are the foundation of every video automation project in Plainly. They are subcategories within a project that let you manage multiple rendering setups for a single project.

A template defines a rendering composition and dynamic elements — parts of the video (like text, images, or video clips) that change based on input data. This enables you to create localized versions, alternate messages, or have unique rendering options without duplicating an entire project.

Relation to After Effects

Root of each template is a composition in After Effects. Prepare your After Effects project and compositions in a way that they are ready for rendering.

FAQ

What’s the difference between a template and a project?

A project is the container that holds everything-assets, settings, and templates. A template is a variation within that project, usually representing a specific video format, language version, or layout.

Can templates share assets or compositions?

Templates can share assets. It’s recommended to duplicate compositions for each template to avoid unexpected changes across versions.

How many templates can I have in a project?

There’s no limit-you can add as many templates as needed to support your variations.
